The Plan
This plan uses and credits the P.E.A.C.E. Plan model by Rick Warren
Prior to the earthquake in Port au Prince, the problems in Haiti were many and diverse and the solutions we were working on were to be met by the Christian church (local and universal) as they would take up the call to action and commission with God. Since the earthquake the problems haven’t gone away, they are now more widely known. Wide spread knowledge of Haiti helps the plan of REDEEM HAITI and is now moving forward as more believers are connecting into this opportunity for ministry.
Why the local church?
1. Universal Distribution
The church is in places where there are no hospitals, clinics, schools, or even clean water sources. We must utilize this vast resource.
2. The Most Volunteers
The church has hundreds of millions of people volunteer everyday to help their community. What if they were trained to train others? We must train, motivate, and mobilize volunteers toward sustainable solutions, not just sympathetic charity.
3. Local Credibility
The church and local pastor are often more trusted in their communities than the government. We must put the local church back into leadership, not outside organizations.
4. A Track Record
The church has 2,000 years of history of feeding the poor and caring for the sick, nations will come and go, the Church will last forever. We must build on something that won’t go away, the local church.
The Holistic Plan: P.E.A.C.E.
1 . Promote Reconciliation
Jesus is all about reconciliation with God first, then to each other. Bible tells us “blessed are the peacemakers.” We must help people get right with God and restore broken relationships with each other.
2. Equip Servant Leaders
The Jesus model. He fed 5,000, trained 7, discipled 12 and mentored 3. We must go and equip, we should be training others toward sustainability.
3. Assist the Poor
Jesus’ first message in Luke 4. “He has appointed me to preach the good news to the poor.” God plays favorites to the poor, get over it, and get poor in spirit. There is a line between assisting and enabling, we have to find it.
4. Care for the Sick
Again, the Jesus Model. Every village He went into He preached, taught, and healed. That’s one-third of Jesus’ ministry focused on health care. For every one verse in the Bible about homosexuality there are at least 100 on poverty. We need to care for their physical needs to help develop sustainable relationships and authenticity.
5. Educate the Next Generation
Jesus’ emphasis on children indicates the importance of the next generation. We must be patient enough to say we may never see the fruit of our own labor.
